About

KA1KJZ is the amateur (ham) radio callsign of Ronald C. “Ron” Barnes of Southington, Connecticut.

This site is typically the technical work, discoveries and musings of Ron, ie. this blog, and assorted trials and tribulations in various internet applications.   This site also hosts a Joomla installation, where various things are tried and provides a stable platform for static content; a wiki, another place to keep static, community contributed content; a genealogy site, where you will find the history of the Barnes and Doucette families in Connecticut; an Icecast server, which serves as a backup and test-bed for Sublime Geek Radio and various trials in home automation, monitoring and graphing.

In reality, this “site” is one server, hosting 3 separate sites.  Also hosted here is www. hamopensource.com and www.ronaldcbarnes.com.  In reality, this is not even a discreet server, but rather a Cloud Server.  Its similar to shared hosting, in that I am not the only user of the hardware, but I rent a virtual machine that is all mine.

HamOpenSource.com is ultimately going to be a repository and community for those involved in the Open Source Hardware (and software) movement, specializing in amateur radio.

RonaldCBarnes.com is Ron’s resume and consultancy site.  There you will find Ron’s resume, professional accomplishments, news, and capabilities as a freelance geek.
